MathMail Step by Step
How's It Work?
I prepare to participate by downloading the 30 day free trial of MathType at http://www.dessci.com/ so my tutor and I can exchange real MathText instead of gobbledygook.
I spend the time I need learning to use the program efficiently.
If I have trouble using MathType, I get help from the MathType Help document at the MathRoom Home Site.
I create MyMathMail folder on my computer hard drive where I organize ALL my MathMail documents and correspondence.
When I need MathMail help, I buy a MathMail Stamp.
I e-mail the details of my question(s) or topic(s) to the tutor.
A tutor prepares a response e-mail (with or without attachment files) explaining my question using MathType text if necessary and responds.
I study the tutor's message and complete any task my tutor assigned.
If I have to enter equations, I color them differently from my tutor's equations.
I enter my response which could be to complete the question or just put in the next step.
If I have more questions on the subject, I save the document in my MathMail folder and return it to the tutor with new details of the help I need.
Again, I receive an e-mail response from the tutor.
I study the response and complete any tasks my tutor assigned.
I send feedback to my tutor with one of two subject lines:
Thanks, I understand I can do the math.
I need more help when can we meet online?
If I choose "more help", and my tutor is available, we can meet in a messenger chat immediately or book a tutoring session on the site's calendar for a later date. We can also continue the lesson via MathMail.
Fast and Easy Web Save
To quickly save the new version of a document you've opened and edited in your web browser, make your changes then click the X (top right) to close the document. When the info box asks if you want to save changes, click Yes. Then save the document back to your MathMail folder with the same name or a new name if needed. When asked if you want to replace the current file, click Yes. Your document will be updated and saved in your MathMail folder. If you like, you can save a copy to your MathMail folder on your hard drive.
